Bowenwork or Bowen Therapy is a dynamic system of muscle and connective tissue therapy that was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Geelong, Australia. It utilizes small but measured inputs to the body at very specific sites stimulating the body to heal itself, often profoundly. It can be applied through clothing but is most effective when applied directly on the skin.
The Bowen technique addresses the entire body by restoring balance via the autonomic nervous system (ANS). Signals are delivered to the nervous system at specific locations (on muscles, tendons, ligaments, or nerves) and the body does the rest.
Bowenwork usually results in the relief of many specific injuries and other health problems, both acute and chronic including digestive and bowel problems, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, frozen shoulder, back pain, neck pain and headaches, menstrual and hormonal irregularities, knee and ankle problems and much more.
Bowen Therapy is gentle on the body, effective and appropriate for anyone to receive, including newborns, highly trained athletes, pregnant women and the elderly. Each person responds differently to a Bowenwork session, according to his or her own body’s need and ability to heal. For more information please see: www.americanbowen.academy.
